MEMBERSHIP DRIVE UNDER WAY FOR FINNEY COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Benefits include museum store discounts, event invitations, newsletter, chance to preserve heritage
The historical society operates the Finney County Museum at 403 S. Fourth in Finnup Park, where admission is free and current exhibit hours are 1-5 p.m. seven days weekly. In addition, the organization provides research and assistance, preserves a growing collection of more than 18,000 cataloged artifacts, operates a library and gift shop inside the museum, and provides an education program that serves more than 7,000 students and adults each year.
The mission of the historical society is Preservation of the Past to Enlighten the Future, and annual membership dues help support mission objectives and year-round activities. Those activities include the Brown Bag Lunch and Evenings and the Museum lecture programs, the Southwest Kansas Antiques Appraisal Fair, the Finney County Pioneer Awards Program, the society’s annual banquet, and the Flea Market Festival of Antiques, Collectibles, Art and Crafts. Activities also range from an annual spare rib sale and fall history picnic to the Historic Walking Tours of Valley View Cemetery, a holiday open house, and periodic additional history events.
Membership levels include single or individual, $15; family, $25; and business, $50. In addition, donor memberships are available from $50 to $1,000 or greater.
Member benefits include mailings and advance invitations to all museum events, the opportunity to vote in FCHS board member elections, the society’s quarterly newsletter, and a 20 percent discount in the museum’s gift shop. FCHS members also earn satisfaction from knowing that they’re helping to preserve the heritage of Finney County and Southwest Kansas.
Membership forms are easy to complete, and they’re available from any museum staff person or board member, or by visiting the museum during business hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. The business entrance is located at the north side of the building and information is available at 620-272-3664. Board members serving on the FCHS Membership Committee include Mary Eves, committee leader; Carla Algrim, Rosemary Corbett, Keith Downer, Barbara Goss, Beth Tedrow and John Wheeler.
