This adventure park is located in Manhattan, Kansas, and is something that the entire family will love. Whether you’re looking for a big thrill or just want to see some awesome sights for an afternoon.
There are seven zip lines where you can fly through trees, over the Kansas River, and even see Kansas mountains. You can even zip line alone or choose to zipline together with a partner.
If you’re looking to stay on the ground, then you can enjoy hikes, ATV rides, or even obstacle courses that are perfect for your entire family.
2. Mushroom Rock State Park
Mushroom Rock State Park might be Kansas’ smallest state park but it is definitely a must-see place to visit even if you’re just passing through. It is only a 5-acre park but the sights are definitely worth it.
You can tell where this park gets its name by the rock formations. The rocks in this park look just like mushrooms. You’ll want to take tons of pictures of these awesome rocks!
You can even look for some graffiti that was left on the mushroom-shaped rocks by Native Americans and pioneers years ago.
3. Mount Sunflower
Another one of our favorite places to visit in Kansas is Mount Sunflower located in Wallace County. It is the highest point in Kansas and is 4,039 feet above sea level. You’ll find this beautiful spot at Harold Family Ranch.
You’ll find a cute sunflower shrine as well as a covered picnic table, metal sculpture, rocks, and even a memorial. You should also take the time to sign the guest book which can be found in the mailbox.
The view from Mount Sunflower is definitely breathtaking and worth the drive.
4. Sandsage Bison Range and Wildlife Area
Have you ever thought you would see bison in their natural habitat? When it comes to places to visit in Kansas you must check out the Sandsage Bison Range and Wildlife Area in Garden City.
Within 3,760 acres, there are three different areas filled with about 100 bison. You enter the bison area escorted with a tour guide. Make sure to call ahead to book your tour.
There are also areas where you have the chance of seeing mule deer, black tail prairie dogs, and coyotes.
5. Lee Richardson Zoo
Who doesn’t love taking a trip to the zoo? The Lee Richardson Zoo is located in Garden City and definitely a trip you don’t want to miss if you’re in Kansas.
You’ll find more than 100 species which are native and exotic that you can meet and watch for the day at this 50-acre zoo. They have giraffes, lions, rhinos. primates, birds, bears, and tons of more animals.
Plus, it’s open year-round so it doesn’t matter what time of year you decide to travel to Kansas you’re always welcome at the zoo!
You’ll find shady areas to relax, picnic tables, walking paths, animal exhibits, and even playgrounds for the kids to enjoy.
Pedestrians are free and it only costs $10 per carload.
6. Monument Rocks
Monument Rocks is also known is The Chalk Pyramids and they’re another amazing sight to see if you’re traveling to Kansas. They’re more than 80 million years old and can be found in Grove City. Some of these rocks are around 70 feet tall so they’re pretty massive.
These rocks are located on private land, but the owners graciously allow visitors to view them daily. Be sure to bring a camera because these rocks are so phenomenal you’ll want to take photos with them.
Make sure to treat the rocks and the land surrounding it with care and respect. Don’t leave any trash behind when visiting.
7. Kannapolis State Park
Located in Marquette, Kansas you’ll find Kannapolis State Park. This state park is filled with tons of amazing and stunning views and surely a sight you won’t want to miss out on. The park is split into two separate areas which are north and south.
One of the biggest attractions of Kannapolis State Park is the miles and miles of trails. You can ride mountain bikes, hike, or even go horseback riding on any of the awesome 27.38 miles of open trail.
Another thing you’ll find at Kannapolis State Park is caves. Faris Caves were actually hand-carved by pioneers years ago and used for many different reasons. They’re another awesome thing to explore if you want to venture to this beautiful state park.
Lastly, you will also be overwhelmed by all of the beautiful flowers and things growing throughout this magnificent state park. There are tons of vegetation filled with cactus, ferns, and wildflowers.
